...And other Fear Factors...

Yes, I know, brother deleted the last post, so I WAS going to repost it, but I got an interesting response to one of MY journals, so I have a comment of my own.

Fear is an interesting thing. It can help a person survive, or it can make them tools. It depends on the person. It can make them run from a viable attack, or cause them to attack what isn't so viable. For example, in a person can attack another person for their views or life style, even going so far as to have cause controversy and strife for others. Reasonable, intellegent adults can generally see through these sorts of shenanigans and ignore them (after all, if a reasonable adult sees something they don't like, they can use the back button and seek more agreeable pastures). Frightened children go crying until they cause what frightens them to go away--even if it was just the shadow of the sweater they were going to need later for that chilly morning. A parent can either respond reasonably, by showing the child what they REALLY fear, or allow the child to drive them nuts, give in to the whining, and throw the sweater away.

Like my analogy? I was going to use one about visual razor tape (in regards to something *I* wrote, without cuss words, denegration of character or put downs), but if the 1st letter I wrote to the mods was considered rough to certain people, what I planned putting up here would have made their brains bleed.

At any rate, I will say right now I applaud the mods here. They have a lot to deal with and other art(ist)s to protect. A site this size has about as many issues to deal with. I applaud a lot of the people here who deal with certain issues with tact and intellegence.

Everyone has a right to their opinion: that's basically what art is ABOUT--a person's opinion about life around them. It gives us a chance to see life through the eyes of another, to see through THEIR dreams, and to dream ourselves--in DIFFERENT WAYS. The problem comes when an individual wants people to see things only THEIR way, and one tool of doing that is to remove another person's view of life. This is a good tool to use when you have children whose idea of the world is up to their parents to provide. That's what a parent DOES. They monitor their kids. For example, I take mine though Dev Art, and when I have to cook dinner, Nanny block goes UP, and there we go. But when someone has decided for ME, the ADULT, that I don't need to see something THEY don't like, and have it BANNED, well then, this is a BAD thing. I, and many others do NOT need someone to tell us what is good or bad. WE have the power to decide that. I can decide if I don't like seeing a woman tied up, a robot tied up, or a politican's tongue tied up. I and many others can do it with ONE FINGER, and a back button. We DON'T need someone else' finger, dogma, angst or fear to do it for us. It smacks too much of control and giving an inch, and most of us know that once THAT happens, women are wearing sacks and men thrown in prison without due process and free speech becomes a death sentence. Okay, so a little visual razoring--can't help myself...

What can I say? You have said what's been on my mind lately much more eloquently than I could.

Yay, that's it! You’ve got the point clearly. I have read others' journals about the case and there was a friend whose opinion was to support the ban. She said that there's written in the policy what is considered to be banned. If her interpretation of the policy is correct than half of the works should be gone.

I haven't read the policy. Throw a stone at me. I browsed the site and found plenty of stuff - some hurt some caught my eyes. I took the name granted - DEVIANT - and thought this tells everything. I was thinking the report button is for protection - for yelling for stolen art or for persons who ACTED wrong, not to be meant for deleting works. I was watching the photo of that lady with fingers in the panty and I turned away - no intention to report her, nobody in her place - if she feels it is "art" - so that's the way she feels, god bless her.
But I like to decide whether I like stuff or not.

So this whole mess is not about what should be considered irritable – it’s about others do decision above us.

Seriously, the ones who dare to presume to think for us lack the mental capacity to think for a petri dish full of bacteria...;)

To put it simply, my dear children , stop :hump: the Report button and use the little back arrow. You know the one.
I agree with you. I know that there are younger members of DA, but the majority of us are adults. Where will the ‘nannying’ stop?? Perhaps it would be better if the mods have a number of complaints before they looked at something. I wonder if anyone actually looked at Cyndi’s work of if they just pressed a button????

You can tie a politician’s tongue up?? I thought you had to nail them to trees with a rivet gun, but only on the 1st of the month with a full moon???

Actually, when it comes to obnoxious people, whether politician or flamer, I prefer gluing their collective genetalia to a rocket and launching their useless afts into the nearest black hole...:evillaugh:

I wish I'd said it earlier. I wish it had more of an impact. I wish the right people would read it. Otherwise, right now I'm merely preaching to the choir, and still Cyndi (and others) suffer from this problem. True, we can all go to other sites, but other sites get dogged, too. Someone HAS to make a stand somewhere. And being someone whose had stories banned as well, the least I can do is lend, at the least, my voice (well, I lent my BODY for the last twenty years so--why not)

I think in this case, from a site I've been lead to, it isn't really about what's acceptable art, but more a vendetta. I mean, there's a whole PAGE just denigrating Cyndi as a person, as well as her art. Who DOES that but someone who is jealous? I think the important thing is that the mods (and ALL of us) not play into these personal vendettas of fear and jealousy. Art should be more than that. and so should human beings.

Thank you. As I said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. As this person was entitled to their opinion, and granted their request about banning Cyndi's work, I think he system should work for EVERY one, and we who request her BACK should have OUR will honored just as much, don't you?

The only problem with using a nail gun is that there aren't any nails that small. I mean you'd have to use a scanning electron microscope to find the afore mentioned bits anyway...:iconcangkirplz:
**is righteously indignant, can't you tell?

Apparently, staying up for 24 hours and counting is not conducive to coherent thought, as evidenced by my saying "touch" where I meant "tough."
